Aerofly FS2 Force Plugin
Thu Nov 15, 2018 11:13 pm
Greetings pilots...
As the title says, this topic is dedicated to Aerofly FS 2 and the goal to bring Force Feedback support to this amazing sim.
Ever since I published my first project, I was shouting out for "coders" to help with several ideas, one of them being the AFS2 Force plugin.
Our neesh community consists of many trades and talents. As the matter of fact, we can do this!!
There's currently one volunteer (Ryan) working on this, however, every now and then, I get an email offering help in "C+ format" therefore we decided to open the subject here and share the brainwaves with the crowd
VR FlightSim is a completely open source platform and the plugin will be no exception! Big shout out and thank you to Ryan for doing this.
So... to give you some idea what's going on so far.
The plugin should look somewhat similar to well known FS-Force or XP-Force, with just little extras or the "best of both".
Following are the links of resources, vital for this research.
Force Feedback programming guide (microsoft)

AFS2 - SDK (Software Development Kit)

AFS2 Wiki (lots of manuals, especially interesting developer section)
https://www.aerofly.com/dokuwiki/doku.php/start
And finally, link to a thread where I successfully got the SDK to export and display AFS2 flight data.

Please don't hesitate to join the cause..

Hey it's me, Ryan. Here's a few resources I've been using to figure out how Force Feedback works:
Tutorial
Sample Project
I've been working on getting something very basic working and I'm getting close. Once I have that I'll set up a repository and anyone interested in helping out can make a pull request.

It's been going well but not with the project... I've been really busy with the holidays (we just had Thanksgiving over here) and wedding in a week. Realistically I probably won't be working on it for the next two weeks. When I get back from the honeymoon I'll get back at it and see if we can get something working because I think it's pretty close to running and manipulating FF devices.

I'm back! I spent a few more hours on it but it is not going great... basically made no progress except figuring out of lot of things that don't work! I think I need to try and figure out if there's a way to get a debugger attached. I'll post on the forum about that because I think that would help a lot.

Hey Ryan, sorry for the delay.
My Mrs gave birth to a beautiful little girl last weekend so I wasn't much in a sim mod though
Did you figure out the debugger attachment?
I was gonna say that there's one chap on IPACS forum developing some sort of force feedback mat which you lay over your chair to give different vibration effects.
I think he's selling these as it works with other games too. I understand from what I've read, that he's got it working with AFS2 SDK so I thought we could ask him for some insight into the subject.

Found the thread HERE.
There's some "code talk" that might be helpful to you but I will PM the chap anyway.
